I'm all about making weird creations and spreading good vibes. I studied art history for a bit before dropping out of college, but I’ve been making stuff ever since. My proudest recognition to date is a first-place ribbon from the LA County Fair for an ugly teapot I made back in sixth grade—ok it was a second-place ribbon. Today, I keep experimenting, following my curiosity, and sharing my work in the hope it sparks joy, laughter, or a little wonder in others.

I am a ceramic artist from Fargo, North Dakota. I studied art at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, working one-on-one with potters: Samuel Johnson and Joe Singewald.
Much of my work is inspired by everyday items I see in the world; a broken chair, a rusty tin can, a drifting cloud, etc. I also own and operate a dinnerware and decór brand, Ellery Stoneware, where I work with restaurants and businesses to bring their artistic visions to life.
As a teacher I focus on helping each student find their own voice in clay and encourage them to push the boundaries of their imagination and technical abilities.

Ceramics brought out the light in me, and I love sharing that joy with anyone who’s curious! I started at Green & Bisque as a student (I know the struggle!) and quickly discovered a passion for creating ceramics. My work blends wheel-thrown and handbuilt elements into pieces that spark warmth, laughter, and joy in the form of tiny animals and bean characters on functional forms. In class, I love helping folks explore clay, whether on the wheel or handbuilding, as we mix technical skills with problem-solving, creativity, and plenty of laughter at the humbling lessons clay has to teach us. We’ll tackle the ups and downs of self-expression and the frustrations of trying something new together (I got you!). Guiding folks through the process to bring their visions to life is so moving to me, and I’m excited to be part of your clay journey :)

Erin Eleniak
-
Erin is a dedicated artist, educator, and ceramics technician, with over ten years of experience working with clay. She was first introduced to clay while at Los Angeles Valley College, and immediately felt a connection to the material. Ever since that first experience, she has made it her business to learn everything she can about clay and ceramic processes, and gets immense joy from sharing this knowledge and experience with her students. Though she has been known to use video, photography, found objects and installation in her work, her interdisciplinary art practice is firmly grounded in clay—using handbuilt, thrown, and slipcast ceramic objects to explore whatever themes she is interested in at the moment. Erin received her BA in Ceramics from California State University Northridge in 2018, and her MFA from University of Southern California Roski School of Art and Design in 2022. She has taught beginner through advanced ceramics at CSUN, and has been an instructor at Green & Bisque since the summer of 2023, where she has taught wheel throwing, handbuilding, slipcasting, and surface design.

Starting my education in clay as an apprentice when I was 18 and working as a full time ceramicist since then for many decades, I would call the wheel my "natural habitat". After moving from Germany to California a few years ago I discovered my joy for instructing classes and workshops. It is the intermediate/advanced throwers that I love assisting to deepen their skills and do tricky things.

Ian Wolterstorff
-
Ian is a ceramic artist and teacher based in Pasadena. His wheel-thrown work, inspired by the California landscape, is carried by retail shops across Los Angeles. In the classroom, Ian encourages students to create with intention—focusing on practical art that balances function and creativity rather than mass production. Largely self-taught, he credits his training to the “prestigious, yet entirely imaginary, School of Making Mistakes and Trying Again.”

Joe Lee
-
Joe fell in love with ceramics at the age of 13. The tactile nature of the clay and the endless possibilities for creativity captivated him, providing a sense of fulfillment that he found nowhere else. Despite this passion, he pursued a more traditional academic path, studying real estate finance in college. However, as graduation approached, Joe felt a growing pull back to his true passion. He spent his final years of college back in the studio, rekindling his love for ceramics.
After graduation, Joe took a job teaching art at a local high school. He found joy in sharing his knowledge and inspiring young minds, and his students were captivated by his enthusiasm and expertise. Yet, the call of further personal growth and adventure was too strong to ignore. Joe decided to take a break from teaching and enrolled at Hong-Ik University in South Korea, known for its prestigious ceramics program. Immersed in a new culture and surrounded by master artists, Joe's skills and artistic vision flourished.
Years later, Joe returned to his home country, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. He reconnected with the local art community and continued to hone his craft. Unexpectedly, he received an invitation from one of his former high school students to teach ceramics at a local studio. This full-circle moment was both humbling and exhilarating for Joe.

Let’s harness the power of the vortex! As a wheel throwing instructor I prepare our body and mind to work with the mass of clay as it spins on the wheel. I’ve been teaching at G&B since the summer of ‘22 after achieving my MFA in ceramics and sculpture from CSUN. I’m a mother, meditator, and lifelong learner who see’s each batch of students as an opportunity to find new ways to teach this exciting technique. I’m passionate about proper body mechanics after having studied massage and find it invaluable for this very physical art form. Class time is spent practicing while I observe, offer guidance and describe what I’m doing during short demonstrations. Throughout the session I keep in touch with a weekly email that includes YouTube videos I find work as helpful reminders between classes. I look forward to working together in the studio!
